FAQs

What's the difference between a bookkeeper and an accountant?

First and foremost every business needs both a bookkeeper as well as an accountant. A bookkeeper is a person who uses accounting software to manage data entry of all financial record keeping and reporting. In addition, bookkeepers provide some accounting functions, such as quarterly financial statements. A certified public accountant is a person who specializes in preparing and filing taxes using tax software. Accountants — who rarely work in accounting software — must rely on bookkeepers to provide the information they need at tax time. Secondly, bookkeepers charge significantly less than CPAs do to manage data entry.
